Tracking the footprint of war

As a growing community of researchers and practitioners grapples with the challenges of characterizing the physical and environmental outcomes from war and conflict, the Conflict and Environemnt Academic Network convened a session at the 2024 AGU Fall Meeting and I had the privilege of serving as one of the session conveners.
This session helped to build communication and collaboration in the interest of advancing the science of war and conflict impact assessment and addressing a myriad of challenges at hand. We learned from a number of wonderful poster and oral presentations, the abstracts of which are available here. One paper on mapping the legacy impacts from the Vietnam War using declassified satellite imagery presented at our session also got a write-up in Science Magazine.
